Senior Underwriter

Overview

The Senior Underwriter is responsible for evaluating and underwriting complex loan files to ensure sound credit decisions, compliance with lending guidelines, and timely loan approvals. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage a high volume of direct retail loans while maintaining accuracy and service standards. The Senior Underwriter serves as a key partner to loan officers, processors, and closers to ensure smooth and on-time funding.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review borrower income, assets, credit, and collateral to assess risk and determine loan eligibility.
  • Perform detailed credit analysis and apply appropriate lending guidelines for direct purchase and refinance loans.
  • Manage a high volume of direct retail loan files while meeting strict turn-time SLAs and quality standards.
  • Communicate directly with borrowers and loan officers to obtain documentation, clarify conditions, and resolve issues.
  • Identify potential red flags within loan files and recommend solutions to maintain loan quality.
  • Ensure all loans comply with federal, state, and investor guidelines.
  • Verify property appraisals, title reports, and insurance documentation for direct lending transactions.
  • Collaborate closely with processors and closers to ensure accurate, efficient, and on-time loan funding.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of mortgage underwriting experience, including complex loan files.
  • Strong knowledge of residential lending guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple files in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bilingual in Mandarin or Cantonese (required).
